Today’s Topic: 🔥🔥🔥 vs. 🪵🪵🪵
I’m going to try to explain why we should choose discomfort based on an age-old battle: body vs. soul.
The body and soul are at war.
They always have been and their differences are completely irreconcilable.
The body and soul are made of two different materials: the soul is made out of light, and the body is made of flesh.
The soul is like light, like fire. Fire destroys whatever holds it. Like wooden logs or houses. While fire grows and eats like a real organism, it’s different from an organism because it tries to destroy itself and whatever material keeps it in the world.
We can think of souls like fire and bodies like normal organisms. They are different. They have different preferences and goals.
Your body wants to eat, grow, and reproduce. It enjoys experiencing through the 5 senses.
Your soul doesn’t want to grow, it wants to transform. There’s a difference between just getting bigger and changing forms altogether.
Your body likes to sit and get nice input from its 5 senses, like watching, listening and eating, which may help you grow bigger but will not transform you. Doing what your body likes to do is comfortable physically, but uncomfortable for your soul, either in the moment or later down the line.
Your soul likes to transform through working or talking or exploring, changing who you are as a person and unlocking new potentials. This kind of work is typically uncomfortable physically, and not fun for the senses.
So basically, no matter what you do it’s uncomfortable for your soul or your body, either in the moment or down the line when you think about what could have been.
Which kind of discomfort will you choose?
There’s no right answer, but at least the soul gets new ambitions, rather than having the same needs over and over again. It feels like through transformation, the soul is able to level up its desires, while the body grows but never changes its basic wants or needs.
Both are needy in different ways. Both cause discomfort. Both are human.
This whole thing might sound depressing, but to me it’s liberating that if you can’t actually avoid discomfort, might as well lean in. Knowing that discomfort is inevitable, you can make choices that align with your goals rather than avoiding pain or discomfort.
One thing I think both the soul and body enjoy is getting into a flow state. Can you think of any other activities that are pleasing to the body and the soul?
Question of the week: Do you find it harder to listen to your body or your soul?
update: I started posting content every day on @lilpotteryy but now I just have to keep iterating until I consistently post great stuff lol
